Pytch at Trinity Access Programmes Maths & Science Fest

The Pytch team were delighted to be invited by Warren Farrell, Primary and Junior Cycle Coordinator with Trinity Access Programmes (TAP), to deliver workshops as part of the TAP Maths & Science Fest. It was a fantastic opportunity to work with students from local schools and introduce them to coding in a fun, hands-on way.

A day of workshops 🎮👩‍💻

We ran two workshops on the day. In the morning, we welcomed 18 students from Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School in Inchicore, who attended with their teachers. In the afternoon, we worked with approximately 25 first-year students from Saint Joseph’s CBS Secondary School, Fairview, who joined us along with their teachers and Kayleigh Conway, TAP North East Inner City Outreach Coordinator.

Getting started with Pytch 🧩

Each session began with a short introduction to the Pytch project and an overview of the coding environment. Students were then guided to the Shoot the Fruit tutorial, where they could explore the completed game before building it themselves step by step.

Learning by doing 🚀

After working through the first stages together, students continued at their own pace while the Pytch team circulated to offer support. Those who finished early were encouraged to take on additional challenge tasks and experiment further with their projects, adding their own creative touches along the way.

Curiosity and creativity in action 🌟

We were hugely impressed by the students across both workshops. They were highly engaged from the outset, quick to pick up new concepts and very willing to explore and test their own ideas. It was great to see such enthusiasm and creativity throughout the day.

Thank you 🙏

A sincere thank you to everyone who helped make the workshops possible, in particular Warren Farrell, Blessing Kaseem and Kayleigh Conway for their support and coordination. We are also very grateful to the teachers and students who took part. It was an absolute pleasure to work with such enthusiastic groups. We wish TAP every success with the rest of the Maths & Science Fest.
